Yoga has played a major role in Carli's life. It may have even saved it on more than one occasion.
Practicing yoga calms the nervous system, eases the mind, and grounds the body. It is a beautiful practice that s available to everyone. As we change, our yoga changes too, and that is okay. The important thing is acceptance and to keep practicing.
Carli's yoga journey began in the year 2002. She began learning about yoga and practicing asanas as a way to keep her body and mind flexible after a life of dance. Little did she know, yoga would become foundational in her life.
By 2011 Carli had developed a devoted daily yoga practice and decided to take the next step to share it with the world and become a yoga teacher. She attended a yoga teacher training in North Carolina that she carefully selected because it was led by the vinyasa goddess, Shiva Rea's, assistant. It was there that she was re-familiarized with many of the fundamentals of yoga, practiced yoga and dancing, and was inspired to be free and expressive. It was during this training that she attended her first ashtanga yoga class. After that first class, Carli felt an indescribable love/hate connection to the ashtanga practice and knew that it was to be her path. She then slowly worked her way up to a daily practice and attended many workshops and trainings led by renowned ashtanga yoga teachers and teachers of other yoga lineages to broaden her knowledge and view, but it wasn't until her first workshop in 2012 with the founder of ashtanga yoga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois’ son, Manju Pattabhi Jois, that she truly felt the true power and healing of ashtanga yoga. There was a likeness of how Manju taught ashtanga yoga and how Carli always felt yoga was meant to be practiced. His teaching style was healing, soft, fun yet serious, flexible but dedicated, and most importantly, lighthearted. There was a comforting connection to the traditional ways of teaching the practice that inspired Carli to want to learn, practice, be dedicated to, and share the beauty and benefits of this lineage.
Carli has attended, and continues to attend, many classes, workshops, and teacher trainings with Manju. She received his blessing to teach and share ashtanga yoga with others in 2016.
Ashtanga yoga has helped Carli become more connected to her own body, nature, and all other beings. She has learned to quiet the chatter in her mind that once caused intense anxiety, pain, and panic, and she understands that life's challenges are opportunities for growth. She finds balance, strength, flexibility, and physical healing through her practice, and hopes to help others find their path as well.
Carli is beyond grateful for all that she has learned and continues to learn from her daily practice and her teacher. She feels incredibly blessed and grateful for every opportunity given to her to share the beautiful practice of ashtanga yoga with others. Carli's teaching style is influenced and inspired by her regular ashtanga practice and her years of vinyasa practice and training. She loves the teachings, tradition, and dedication required of ashtanga yoga and the freedom and dance-like flow of vinyasa yoga.
Carli teaches many different classes to ensure there is an opportunity for everyone to practice, heal, and leave the class happy.
Beginners and yogis of all levels, styles, and backgrounds are welcomed and encouraged to join, laugh, let go, and explore their own potential.
